A psychiatrist has claimed that Prince William sees his mother-in-law, Carole Middleton, as a “second mum”, who provides a “normal life” that he has “never had”
Prince William sees his mother-in-law, Carole Middleton, as a “second mum” who might represent the “maternal figure he’s lacked”, says an NHS psychiatrist.
Max Pemberton, who also writes columns, suggests that Carole could offer him a “glimpse” of the “normal life he’s never had” after losing his own mother, Princess Diana, at a young age.
The bond between them was evident at Royal Ascot last week when William saved Carole from embarrassment after her heel got stuck in the grass.
Writing in the Daily Mail, Pemberton said: “We all know how tricky life with in-laws can be. And yet sometimes, they provide an alternative type of family to ours, which is welcome.”
He added: “It’s said William considers Carole a second mum. Of course, he lost his own at a tender age, so Carole may represent that maternal figure he’s lacked.”
He further stated: “The Middletons also give him a glimpse of the kind of normal life he’s never had. The embrace of a new family, with its different perspectives and traditions, can be very healthy and help us to flourish.”
Many women would have sympathised with Carole’s shoe mishap, but it was “lovely” that her son-in-law helped her out, said Max, reports the Express.
Rebecca English, The Daily Mail’s Royal editor, praised William as a “true gentleman” for his actions, with fans echoing this sentiment on social media.
On the second day of Royal Ascot, Carole Middleton seemingly paid a touching tribute to her daughter, Princess Kate, who was unable to attend due to ongoing cancer treatment. Kate previously made a return to public life on June 15 when she graced the Trooping the Colour event.
Carole’s choice of a blue floral dress is believed to be a nod to her daughter, as it bore a striking resemblance to an outfit previously worn by Kate, designed by one of her favourite brands, Self-Portrait.
Carole and Michael Middleton made their first public appearance since their daughter’s diagnosis on June 19 at the star-studded event.
Prince William was seen sharing a warm laugh with Carole as he helped her regain her composure, a moment that reportedly endeared her even more to the public.
The Prince of Wales was also spotted engaging in conversation with his in-laws, and in a heartwarming moment, William held Carole’s hand as they chatted with other attendees.
Queen Camilla, along with the Earl and Countess of Halifax, joined William earlier in the Royal procession as they entered the parade ring. The Prince of Wales delighted fans by offering a smile from his carriage.
