Breaking News:Jason Kelce opens up on covering brother Travis for the first time in his new MNF role… but insists he WON’T give him special treatment (despite it being his birthday weekend!)
As he gears up for his new role on ESPN, Jason Kelce opened up about covering his younger brother Travis when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the New Orleans Saints on October 7.
After 13 seasons in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, the older Kelce brother hung up his cleats over the summer. However, it did not take him long to secure a position on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Jason confidently said he would be fair in critiquing his brother while still enjoying the job.
I don’t know that I’m going to cover Travis any differently than I do anyone else. I mean, I feel like I’ve been praising him for as long as I can remember,’ he notes.
‘I’ve got to be honest, I do think it’s important to do that whenever you’re commentating. So I’m just going to try and do that and just organically say what I think and not think too much into it.’
With it being his first season away from the field, Jason noted how he looks forward to celebrating his brother’s 35th.
‘Well, that one’s actually gonna be really fun, because Travis’s birthday is October 5th,’ Jason noted. ‘So, I’ll be able to go in and celebrate his birthday with him — which normally, in season, we don’t get to see each other for that. Then I’ll be able to cover the game.’
The reigning Super Bowl champions starred in an opening night thriller against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday. As they escaped by inches to secure a 27-0 win, Kelce had a relatively slow night with three receptions for 34 yards.
The Chiefs will face the Cincinnati Bengals on September 15 before embarking on a coast-to-coast road trip to Atlanta and Los Angeles to face the Falcons and Chargers
