Breaking News:Sabrina Carpenter addresses rumor she had to ask Taylor Swift’s permission to do Kim Kardashian…..See More
Sabrina Carpenter apparently didn’t have to ask Taylor Swift if she could please, please, please participate in an ad for Kim Kardashian’s Skims clothing line.
In a new interview about her summer of meteoric success, the actress and “Espresso” pop star reacted to an internet rumor alleging that she had to consult Swift — her friend and collaborator who also enlisted Carpenter to perform on select dates of her Eras Tour — before participating in a photo advertisement for Kardashian’s shapewear and underwear collection.
Well, Taylor is a rock star!” Carpenter told Variety during the conversation inside a record store, where the outlet noted that Swift’s latest album The Tortured Poets Department was displayed among rock albums. “She’s just such a gangster with all of it. No matter what people are saying, everything that I’ve ever seen her tackle, she’s done so with grace. The posts about me having to ‘ask for her permission’ — no. She’s one of my best, best friends, and we grab dinner or text and catch up like you would with your best friend.”
Carpenter previously said that she made Swift aware of the collaboration with Skims, which is owned by Kardashian, with whom Swift has a strained relationship stemming from the early days of Kardashian’s relationship with Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West.
As much as people want to believe you’re tuned into every little thing, I’m not because I’m constantly working. In that scenario, I’ve been very, very communicative with her about that situation, and I just love her so much and support her till the end,” Carpenter told Rolling Stone. “So it was no weirdness for me, but I know people will just say things because that’s all they have time to do.
Following West’s notorious interruption of Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs, Kardashian became involved in the feud in 2016 surrounding the release of West’s single “Famous,” which featured a line about Swift suggesting that he “made that bitch famous” while alluding to a projection that he and Swift “might still have sex.”
Swift condemned the song, with Kardashian — who divorced West in 2022 — eventually claiming that Swift had approved the lyrics. She later shared a video of a phone call between West and Swift to illustrate her point, but Swift maintained that she hadn’t heard nor given her approval of all the lyrics in the song.
Of course, I wanted to like the song. I wanted to believe Kanye when he told me that I would love the song. I wanted us to have a friendly relationship,” Swift said in an interview at the time. “He promised to play the song for me, but he never did. While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot ‘approve’ a song you haven’t heard. Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination.”
Swift later released a Tortured Poets song, “thanK you aIMee,” that many speculated to be a Kardashian diss track.
