Breaking News: Travis Kelce Confirms He’ll Host Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?: ‘I’m Just Happy to Be on the Hosting Side’
Travis Kelce is officially in his game show era.
Fresh off his victory at Super Bowl LVIII, the Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end will host Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, a new gameshow spinoff of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? that’s set to stream on Prime Video.
A source told PEOPLE about Kelce’s potential gig back in March, but news of the series was confirmed on Tuesday, April 16 in an announcement from the streaming platform. The series is being produced by MGM Alternative, a division of Amazon MGM Studios, and will stream in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
I grew up loving game shows, and I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very first one with Are you Smarter than a Celebrity?,” Kelce, 34, said in a statement. “The original show is a great success, so to be bringing a new format with everyone’s favorite celebrities to the screen, will definitely be entertaining.”
“I’m just happy to be on the hosting side of the equation here and excited to see how these famous faces keep up,” he joked
Kelce will follow in the footsteps of Jeff Foxworthy and John Cena, who hosted previous versions of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? The game show, co-created by Barry Poznick and John Steven, premiered on Fox in February 2007 with Foxworthy at the helm and ran through 2011 before it was canceled. It was revived on Fox in 2015, again with Foxworthy, for one more season.
In 2019, Nickelodeon revived the concept with Cena as host, just for a single season.
Since then, the Are You Smarter brand continues to live on in a board game, a companion book and late-night versions of the show.
